How to Use Collall Textile Hardener

Preparation:

  1. Choose your material: Natural materials like cotton, jute, linen, yarn, paper, or lace work best.
  2. Cut & shape: Cut or tear the fabric to size and decide on the shape of your project. Want to make a figurine? Use a wire frame, aluminum foil, or an old object (like a vase or bottle) as a base.
  3. Protect your workspace: Cover your work surface with newspaper, plastic, or a tarp — Collall Textile Hardener adheres very well!
  4. Protect yourself: Wear old clothes or a painting apron and consider gloves. Textile Hardener can be difficult to remove from skin or clothing.

Application:

  1. Apply the hardener: Pour some Textile Hardener into a container. Fully submerge the fabric or generously brush it on with a paintbrush until the material is completely soaked.
  2. Remove excess liquid: Gently squeeze out any excess hardener, using your fingers or by pressing the fabric between two pieces of cardboard.
  3. Shape it: Drape the soaked fabric over your base or frame and arrange it into the desired shape — folds, twists, or flowing effects.
  4. Drying: Let the project dry for at least 24 hours at room temperature. Once dry, your artwork will be hard, transparent, and waterproof.
  5. Allergens: 2-methyl-2H-isothiazol-3-one and 1,2-benzisothiazol-3(2H)-one. May cause an allergic reaction.

Finishing Tip

Create a Unique “Stone Look”

After your artwork has dried and hardened with Collall Textile Hardener, you can finish it off for an even more impressive result.

Want a rugged, natural appearance? Give your creation a stone or concrete effect:

Here’s how:

  • Mix Collall Textile Hardener with a little fine sand, chalk powder, or small gravel to add texture.
  • Apply this mixture to the surface using a sponge, spatula, or brush to create a rough, grainy relief.
  • Allow it to dry thoroughly, then paint it with acrylics in shades of grey, anthracite, or earthy tones. Use a dry brush to layer different colors and achieve a realistic stone or concrete effect.
  • Finish with Collall Varnish Glue or, for a glossy finish, Collall Decoupage Varnish to add extra protection and a professional look.

Extra Tips:

  • For larger or heavier projects: work in layers and allow drying time in between.
  • You can paint the finished piece with acrylic paint or apply varnish for extra shine or special effects.
  • Ideal for sculptures, garden decorations, wall art, or mixed media.
  • Creations made with Collall Textile Hardener are waterproof once dry but not fully weatherproof. Want to create an outdoor sculpture? That’s perfectly fine, as long as it’s placed under a roof or covered area.
